DATE NIGHT PATIOS

Trezo Mare

Briarcliff (North Kansas City)
If you’re looking for a seat with a view, look no further than Trezo Mare. Not only does the Northland establishment’s patio look out to downtown, it’s spacious, boasting an ambiance complete with fire pits, fountains and plenty of tables.

The Farmhouse

River Market
Not only does The Farmhouse offer delicious farm-to-table comfort food, but also a quaint patio in the heart downtown KC’s River Market neighborhood. Stop by on the third Saturday of warmer months for some great people-watching during the Wine Walk on Delaware - or any other night for a romantic dinner-for-two.

Harry's Country Club

River Market
If you’re looking for a more casual date night, look no further than this kind-of-divey River Market gem. Harry’s large patio is the perfect spot to enjoy great happy hour specials, an extensive beer selection and, often, live music.

Extra Virgin

Crossroads
If you can’t commit to just one dish, Extra Virgin is your spot. Stop by this Michael Smith concept to mix and match a number of different small plates and sip some Spanish Sangria. Pro tip: Extra Virgin's central Crossroads location makes for great people-watching on First Fridays.

Gram and Dun

Country Club Plaza
If you’ve driven by the Plaza on any somewhat nice day, chances are you’ve driven by a packed happy hour on Gram & Dun’s patio. Make reservations for a later dinner and enjoy warm fire pits, tasty cocktails (we recommend the Smoking Dun or “D” cup) and a few of the Asian Pig Wings.

Cafe Trio

Country Club Plaza
For days when the weather isn't perfect, Cafe Trio offers sanctuary. The Plaza-facing restaurant offers both an outdoor patio as well as a covered open air seating area that is enclosed and heated during cooler months. It would be remiss of us to not recommend the popular “Mac Daddy” bowl.

Rye

Leawood
If you're out south, it'll be hard to find a better food + atmosphere combo than Rye, a Midwestern food-focused concept from James Beard Award list regulars, Megan and Colby Garrelts. This is definitely one of the top picks for an outdoor date.

Red Door Grill

Leawood
Red Door Grill's patio in Leawood has a major cozy vibe, tucked behind a big brick fireplace and under warm string lights. Come out on any First Saturday and you'll catch some live, local music on the patio as well.

ROOFTOP PATIOS

Up-Down

Crossroads
If the funky vibe, 80s-90s arcade games and giant Mario Kart screen haven’t enticed you to visit Up-Down yet, don’t forget about the bar’s expansive rooftop patio. I mean, it has giant Jenga and Connect Four sets. If games aren’t your thing, fret not, there’s always the pizza and beer.

John's Big Deck

Downtown
The downtown view is worth the steep climb of stairs to reach it at John's Big Deck. This divey sports bar has a rooftop complete with plenty of seating, cozy couches, warm fire pits, colorful characters and a number of TVs.

Westport Ale House

Westport
We already know Ale House is a great place to watch a game (see our rundown of the Best KC Sports Bars), but it also boasts one of the city’s best rooftop patios. With plenty of TVs, lounge seating and even a few games, it’s a great weekend spot to go with a group of friends.

O'Dowd's

Country Club Plaza
O’Dowd’s is known for bands and DJs filling the dance floor most weekend nights, but if you’re looking to get away from the noise, climb upstairs. The large rooftop patio offers a great perch to overlook the Plaza.

HopCat

Westport
Hopcat is the new kid on the block in KC, but it's making a quick name for itself for its unique menu, exclusive beer collaborations (among 100 rotating taps) and its Food Network-famous "crack fries." But our favorite thing so far is the rooftop patio that overlooks Westport and Broadway. Plus, the covered, open-window bar up there will make HopCat a coveted spot on rainy days in the summer.

The Well

Waldo
The Well’s massive rooftop patio is prime for year-round enjoyment, offering a tent covering and fire pits during the winter. This Waldo hotspot is great for whatever your evening holds, whether you’re looking for an early happy hour or your final Friday night destination.

Coach's (OP)

Overland Park
Coach's had the sports fan at heart when it designed this two-level bar and grill; there are TVs everywhere. But anyone can appreciate the sprawling patio and open-garage-door bar on the rooftop of this JoCo destination. Pro tip: During football season, Coach's has been known to be great hosts to Husker fans on Saturday and Packers fans on Sundays.

SOCIAL PATIOS

Chicken & Pickle

North KC
Whether you know what pickleball is or not, we challenge you to find a better place to spend a day outdoors. Chicken & Pickle is a glorified beer olympics lawn, equipped with games like washers, bags, human-sized Battleship and, of course, pickleball. You can also stake out a picnic-style cabana with outdoor TVs to enjoy a Royals game in the open air.

Power & Light Living Room

Downtown
P&L's massive outdoor plaza is famous for its big-game watch parties (World Cup, World Series, etc.), but it's often overlooked as a great spot to lounge after [or instead of] work. Grab a beer or cocktail from one of many restaurant options, find a couch and tune into a game, which will likely be airing on the KC Live! big-screen.

Grünauer

Crossroads
Stop by Grünauer’s patio in the Crossroads’ Freight House for views of the iconic Western Auto building and the occasional train passing by. Stay to enjoy the authentic Austrian fare and expansive beer selection. The schnitzels are a crowd favorite.

Char Bar

Westport
Whether you’re looking to indulge in some tasty barbecue or just want to play a good old-fashioned yard game, Char Bar has it all. The patio off the back of the restaurant offers ample picnic tables, fire pits, a stocked bar and games such as bocce ball, croquet and corn hole. This is a great spot to spend your day or start your night.

Sol Cantina

Martini Corner (Midtown)
Sol Cantina’s garage door windows and outdoor tiki bar exude a spring break beach bar vibe without ever leaving the Midwest. Check out Sol for its great happy hour specials

McCoy's + The Foundry

Westport
If you’re in the mood for a classic brewpub feel, head on over to the newly renovated McCoy’s patio at the busy corner of Pennsylvania and Westport Road. If you’re looking for a patio to hang out and listen to music late into the night, go next door to the Foundry. Either way, we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Harry's Bar and Tables

Westport
Harry’s multi-level patio is one of the best people-watching spots in the busy and eclectic Westport bar district. Sit and sip your drink of choice on the shady patio during a nice day and be prepared for shoulder-to-shoulder crowds on summer nights.

Taco Republic

Westwood, KS
Taco Republic got creative with, what used to be, an old gas station and converted into a themed outdoor patio. The exterior tiki hut bar sits under the preserved overhang of the gas station as part of a vibrant, colorful exterior. Go here for great, slow-cooked street-style tacos and cold margaritas.

The Brooksider

Brookside
After a brief closure and change in ownership, the Brooksider is back in all of its college sports bar-esque glory. Swing by the popular neighborhood spot on game day to enjoy the patio with plenty of tables, shaded seating, multiple TVs and a full bar.

KC Bier Company

Waldo
If you’re looking for an authentic German beer garden in the heart of the Midwest, grab your friends (both human and canine are welcome) and head to KC Bier Co. in Waldo. Bonus points if you bike to and from via the Trolley Track trail. Grab a beer flight to sample, or commit to a growler of the popular Weizenbock, Dunkel or Hefeweizen.
