1. Feed Me KC
Jeff, Emily and Kyle are food enthusiasts and write with a lot of passion, sarcasm and fun. This blog has a nice blend of recipes and restaurant reviews. Feed me KC is at their best in the podcasts that they theme around foodie topics. These guys keep it local and do a great job of bringing some fresh perspective on our city.
2. Purple Carrot
Lesley Borger started the purple carrot in 2009 and has been steadily blogging ever since. The purple carrot is all about healthy. Lesley stands by restaurants that use organic and locally grown goods to make our city a little more delicious. Lesley’s artistic style behind her camera makes this a visual destination for foodies in the city.
3. KC Beer Blog
The KC Beer Blog has carved out a space as the authority on all things brewed. They feature an up to date calendar of beer related events, video reviews of the latest local hits and even some tips on how to brew at home. Be forewarned, these guys can geek out a little bit and we love it.
4. The Making of a Foodie
Jenny Vergara’s flavor packed take on local food is sincere and inviting. Her blog captures her own journey to becoming a foodie. Jenny features monthly restaurant roundups that she calls “Table Hopping”. Her April post was titled “Oodles of Noodle Bowls” and featured four less known places to get some delicious noodles. Other posts cover topics like local pizza, desserts and comfort food.
5. Around the Bloch
Mary Bloch is an attorney by trade, but her passion is for food and travel. Mary does a great job of regularly updating her blog and unearthing restaurants that are not on the beaten path. In addition to blogging on her own, Mary also writes the Restaurant Guide for the Kansas City Star. Expect to see occasional recipes in the mix as well.
6. What You’re Missing KC
Sharmin Meadows gives us a window into her life and adventures as a foodie through What You’re Missing KC. Expect a mix of recipes, restaurants and the occasional post on health and wellness. We also love her occasional videos that feature local bars and restaurants.
7. Cow Town Chow
Former chef, Jerry Rowan, has built his website CowTownChow as a resource on the latest news in Kansas City’s restaurant and bar world. In addition to articles on new happenings around KC and reviews of Kansas City’s popular restaurants, he provides food and drink recipes and other culinary ideas.
8. KC Morsel
Laura Clark offers a barista’s perspective on Kansas City’s coffee, beer, cocktails and food. Her blog is a great resource for local coffee events and competitions. As a barista herself Laura offers an inside view on the equipment, style and techniques that make good coffee shops what they are.
9. Eat It KC
Eat it KC is an upbeat restaurant review and recipe blog. Shanley’s personality comes through every post and her selection of reviews is eclectic. Check out her blog for some humorous and insightful reviews on some of Kansas City’s favorite restaurants and local dives.
